Package Overview
Day-wise Itinerary
Welcome to the Land of High Passes! Upon arrival at Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochhe Airport (11,562 ft), our driver will receive you and transfer you to your hotel. Complete rest is essential today — do not exert yourself as your body needs to acclimatize to the high altitude.
Leh sits at over 11,000 feet and altitude sickness is real. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and take it easy. In the evening, take a gentle stroll through the charming Leh Market to explore local handicrafts, thangka paintings and Ladakhi jewellery. Overnight at Leh hotel.
After breakfast, explore the historic heart of Leh with a full-day local sightseeing tour. Visit the majestic Leh Palace — a 17th-century royal palace offering panoramic views of the Indus Valley. Climb up to Namgyal Tsemo Gompa for breathtaking 360-degree views of Leh town.
Visit the ancient Thiksey Monastery — one of Ladakh's most impressive monasteries, resembling the Potala Palace of Lhasa. Explore the peaceful Shey Palace and its giant golden Buddha statue. End the day at Sindhu Ghat on the banks of the Indus River. Overnight at Leh.
After early breakfast, drive to Nubra Valley via the world-famous Khardung La Pass (18,380 ft) — one of the highest motorable roads on earth. The drive itself is an extraordinary experience with stunning views of the Karakoram Range.
Descend into the Nubra Valley — a beautiful cold desert oasis where the Shyok and Nubra rivers meet. Visit the stunning Diskit Monastery with its giant Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the valley. In the afternoon, enjoy the surreal experience of double-humped Bactrian camel rides on the sand dunes of Hunder. Overnight at Nubra.
After breakfast, drive from Nubra Valley to the legendary Pangong Tso Lake via the spectacular Shyok River route (approx. 5–6 hours). This scenic drive along the turquoise Shyok River through barren lunar landscapes is one of Ladakh's most dramatic journeys.
Arrive at Pangong Lake (14,270 ft) — the iconic salt lake that stretches 134 km across India and China, famous for its mesmerizing colour-shifting waters that change from vivid turquoise to deep blue throughout the day. Made world-famous by the film 3 Idiots, this lake is truly one of Earth's most breathtaking sights. Overnight camping/guesthouse at Pangong.
Wake up to a stunning sunrise over Pangong Lake — one of the most magical experiences in all of Ladakh. The early morning light transforms the lake into pure gold. After breakfast and a final walk along the lakeside, drive towards Tso Moriri Lake via the high-altitude Chang La Pass (17,688 ft).
Tso Moriri (15,075 ft) is Ladakh's most pristine high-altitude lake — a wildlife sanctuary and Ramsar heritage site surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Unlike the famous Pangong, Tso Moriri sees far fewer tourists, offering a truly peaceful and spiritual experience in the heart of the Changthang Plateau. Overnight at Tso Moriri.
After breakfast and a morning walk around the stunning Tso Moriri shoreline, drive back towards Leh stopping at some of Ladakh's most fascinating natural wonders along the way.
Visit the mysterious Magnetic Hill — where vehicles appear to defy gravity and roll uphill against the slope. Witness the spectacular Sangam — the confluence of the turquoise Zanskar River and the muddy Indus River — a dramatic natural spectacle. Visit the sacred Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a Sikh shrine built in 1517. Stop at the ancient Hall of Fame museum dedicated to the Indian Army. Return to Leh for overnight stay.
After breakfast, spend the day exploring western Ladakh's most scenic and spiritual destinations. Drive to the ancient Alchi Monastery — one of Ladakh's oldest monasteries dating back to the 10th century, famous for its exquisite Buddhist murals and artwork.
Continue to the dramatic Lamayuru Monastery — perched on a rocky crag above a moonscape valley known as the "Moonland of Ladakh." The views from Lamayuru across the alien-like eroded landscape are extraordinary. Stop at the Indus-Zanskar Confluence and the dramatic Fotu La Pass (13,478 ft). Return to Leh for a final dinner and overnight stay — your last night in the Land of High Passes.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel. Our driver will transfer you to Leh Airport for your onward flight. Due to the high altitude, early morning departures are common from Leh — please keep your bags packed the night before.
As you board your flight, look out the window for one final glimpse of the magnificent Himalayan and Karakoram peaks that have surrounded you throughout this incredible journey. The Land of High Passes — with its turquoise lakes, ancient monasteries, dramatic mountain passes and starlit skies — will stay with you long after you leave. Crafted with love by Lightweight Holidays.
